Silk Drapes

Dressing Up Your Home With Silk Drapes

Everyone loves the feel of silk and when you think about silk you think of rich, expensive and elegant.  You can create that look at home just by using Silk Drapes for your window coverings.  You can find silk drapes in different styles, and colors.

Commonly you find silk drapes in a rod pocket or pinch pleat style.  The rod pocket panel has a pocket just big enough to slide a curtain rod through it to hang it on the window.  Pinch pleat curtains are made with pleats at the top of the panel equally spread apart and they are hung using metal hooks that hang on a track.  You can also find them in a grommet panel.  These are panels that have big metal or plastic rings punched top of the panel where a rod will go through.  Each style will convey a different look.  For instance the pinch pleat look is a more traditional style and usually creates a more classic look.  The rod pocket look is a bit more casual than the pinch pleat.  Grommet panels are generally a more casual, modern look.

Silk Drapes come in dupioni, taffeta and linen fabrics.  Dupioni silk is made by intertwining two different colors of silk so that when it moves that it has the appearance to change color.  Dupioni silk resists wrinkles and takes creases well.  The largest advantage it has is that this type of silk is reversible so it will look the same regardless which side it is viewed from. Taffeta is a white solid silk that has a slight sheen to it.  They dye it to give it colors.  The silk linens are called that because they are a blend of silk and linen which makes it a more fire retardant fabric.

Silk Drapes usually come in solid or striped patterns because of the extent in which they are made.  You can sometimes find them in other patterns like florals and plaids, but you will generally pay more for silk that has intricate patterns.  Since they are a higher quality window treatment you usually find them lined and can even get them with energy efficient lining.

So if you have been looking for a high quality elegant material for your next set of window coverings, choose silk drapes and really dress up your room.

I was looking for something on silk drapes and I stumbled upon this website. After reading this, I have made up my mind to go with Dupioni silk. Also because I am guessing that it would be easy to maintain.

Silk drapes definitely make your house look rich. There is this certain quality of silk that gives the feeling of richness. Whether one uses it in attire or as curtains it is bound to look rich. Silk is my all time favorite.

Benefits of Thermal Curtains

By Jenny Austin
One of the most economic and easy to apply methods of insulating your home is to dress your windows with insulated or thermal curtains. This thought probably drums images of dreary looking drapes that will do nothing for the appeal of your home. The term thermal curtains sounds dull and responsible causing you to envisage something industrial; these were exactly my own thoughts when I first came across the term thermal curtains. It will be a relief to hear that I was mistaken and thermal curtains are anything but boring; there are so many variations of beautiful thermal curtains available that something suitable can be found for any home.
